New challenges in child protection - understanding the issues and promoting an agenda for change
Barnet’s sixth annual multi-agency children’s workforce conference – New challenges in child protection - understanding the issues and promoting an agenda for change - was held on 24 October 2012.
Approximately 160 children’s workforce attended the conference which was hosted by Kate Kennally, Director of Adult Social Care and Interim Director of Children’s Service.

- Disorganised attachment and child maltreatment; delivered by Professor David Shemmings, Professor of Social Work at the University of Kent’s School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research and Co-Director of the university’s new Centre for Child Protection
- A Victim's Perspective of Online Grooming: Features and Recommendations for Effective Child Protection; delivered by Helen Whittle, Child Exploitation and On-line Protection Centre (CEOP)
- Developing an effective response to neglect and emotional harm to children and young people; delivered by Dr Ruth Gardner, Head of Strategy and Development for the neglect theme at NSPCC and is Honorary Visiting Fellow at the University of East Anglia.
