The Future of Barnet’s Allotments:
Barnet allotment holders are set to have a greater say about the way their sites are run. Details can be found on our consultation portal.
A proposed new management scheme will allow allotment societies to take on a greater responsibility, including decision making on funding, maintenance and improvement works.
Plot holders are encouraged to put themselves forward for the scheme, which is part of the council’s ‘Big Society’ model.
Allotment holders attended an initial workshop on 18 January 2011 to begin the exploration of alternative management arrangements for Barnet’s allotments.
There was discussion about the development of an alternative model for running the allotments within the constraints of current legislation whilst allotment holders were also given the chance to raise any issues or concerns. Officers are now compiling a list of issues following the meeting and will develop a plan to move forward.
