Why the west of the borough?
In order for us to provide the services that are relevant to our customers it is important we know who are customers are. It is also important that we provide the required services that will meet the identified need.
In order to determine what services customers living in the west of borough would need access to we took a more detailed look at Burnt Oak ward:
- 10% of people in burnt oak are retired
- 8% of people are students
- 9% are unemployed, looking after home or family member
- 5% unemployed due to sickness or permanent disability
- 21% of people are short term unemployed
- 13% are over 50 and are unemployed
- 16% of people between the ages of 16 – 74 have never worked
- 33% of people are long term unemployed
- 30% of people rent their home from the council
- 8% rent from a private housing association/ social landlord
- 12% rent from a private landlord
We know that the west of the borough is one of the most deprived parts of Barnet and that it has an increasing volume of customers that need to interact with the council about a range of services. Currently some of these services are some distance away in Barnet House (Whetstone).
This project will provide customers with a choice of access to council services and service information.
