Emergency Planning
Emergency planning
Planning for a major incident and putting a strategy in place to ensure business continuity is a must for all local authorities.
Barnet is one of the largest councils in the country, making the need for a comprehensive structure of support for residents and businesses in the event of an emergency all the more vital.
Barnet Council works closely with its partners in the emergency services, health services and government in preparing for a range of potential emergencies. A number of key staff have undergone emergencies training and the council has a project board which meets monthly to discuss emergency issues and update on developments.
The council has provided a comprehensive package of information for residents and businesses and also has detailed preparations for a range of potential incident situations, such as floods, terrorist incidents, freak weather or a flu pandemic.
As part of its statutory duties, the council has also published its local community risk register which outlines the likelihood and significance of all manner of incidents that could affect Barnet.
Barnet Council organised a Business Continuity Conference on 4 September 2006.
