Free Photographic exhibition in Chipping Barnet celebrates Victorian Society’s work

The Victorian Society’s free travelling exhibition, Saving a Century, has reached Chipping Barnet. Using archive photographs and material from over fifty years of the Victorian Society’s fight to save historic buildings, the exhibition charts the successes and defeats of the organisation that has done so much to change public attitudes towards the nineteenth century’s best architecture. This is the final chance this year to see the exhibition which has travelled to all corners of the UK.

Chris Costelloe, Director of the Victorian Society said: ‘Saving a Century tells the extraordinary story of the battles that have shaped our towns and cities. Without these campaigns, many of our most famous places would look very different today. The exhibition is a testament to the energy and vision of the early members of the Victorian Society as well as a sobering reminder of the way that public opinion and tastes change.’

Saving a Century highlights the Victorian Society’s most remarkable campaigns, among them Liverpool's Albert Dock, St Pancras station, the Foreign Office and the much missed Euston Arch. The exhibition’s curator is leading architectural historian, Gavin Stamp. 

The exhibition runs from 4 November to 31 December at Chipping Barnet Library, 3 Stapylton Road, Barnet, EN5 4QT. Admission is free.

Health Walks - Woodside Park/Finchley Central

Weekly instructor led health walk around Woodside Park

Grade rating = 3-5 (ratings 1-5.  1= easy, 5 = challenging). 

The London Borough of Barnet organises and runs seven instructor-led health walks across the borough on a weekly basis. Each one is led by a qualified instructor and includes additional exercises to challenge your physical fitness and develop strength and conditioning.

Walking provides an affordable mode of exercise, improves your health and is a great way to meet people and make new friends.

The walks are open to anyone over the age of 18. There is no need to book, just turn up, come rain or shine. 

Walks cost £2.80, payable on the day, or you can purchase 10 walks for £22.40 or £18 if you are over the age of 60 (proof of eligibility required).

Please note that there are no Saturday, Sunday or Monday walks during any of the Bank Holiday weekends.

Parkrun is a weekly free 5km timed run around Oak Hill Park in East Barnet.

It is a great opportunity to get your friends, family or colleagues along to a fun and enjoyable event.

People are welcome to run, jog or walk and Parkrun is open to all abilities.
