Local Development Framework (LDF)
Q1. What is the Local Development Framework (LDF)?
The new Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 paves the way for a more flexible and responsive planning system.
It introduces Local Development Frameworks (LDFs) as a replacement for Unitary Development Plans (UDPs).
The LDF will comprise of a folder containing a number of documents, some of which will have statutory force, and others which will provide non-statutory guidance.
The existing UDP will be saved for three years after its adoption, and will remain the borough’s statutory plan until all, or parts of it are deleted and replaced by the new style documents.
The council is required to produce the Local Development Scheme (LDS) setting out the 3 year project plan for each LDF document the Council will produce for Barnet. The LDS contains details on how and when the Council will prepare and implement the new planning framework in Barnet. Barnet’s LDS became live on 14th April 2005.
