Planning - Extensions to Buildings

Q1. How do I go about getting permission for an extension?

Not all extensions require planning permission.

For information and advice on what types of extension require planning permission, please view:

Planning: A Guide for Householders from the Communities and Local Government website.

If you know that your proposed extension requires planning permission, you need to apply for planning permission by filling in the appropriate form(s).

Q2. My neighbour says that he is going to put an extension on the house, it will block my view. What can I do about it?

If the extension requires planning permission, you would be consulted when the application is received and given an opportunity to raise objections to the proposal.

If the building work commences/has commenced you can report the details and ask the planning enforcement section to investigate any breaches of planning control.
