Do the birth parents and other relatives have any contact with their child after adoption?
It is usual for the two families to exchange letters and photographs once or twice a year. This is arranged through social services so that anonymity is maintained.
Occasionally the child will continue to have face-to-face contact perhaps with the parents or the grandparents or another relative who has been close to the child.
It is common to arrange face-to-face contact between siblings who may need to be placed in separate families.
Social workers together with the adopters, birth parents and the child will decide for each child what sort of contact is in the child’s best interest.
