Does Barnet provide support once a child is placed with me?
Throughout the child's time of being in care, his/her need for help and support will be assessed and the appropriate resources will be provided.
When the child is placed with you for adoption, usually the social worker who you know through doing your assessment will support you and your new family until the adoption order is made. Where necessary, extra resources can be provided.
Before the adoption is finalised, there will be an assessment of the support that you and your family will need after the adoption order is made. This could be financial help, therapy for the child, support around contact with the birth parents or help in accessing the appropriate educational resources.
Barnet employs an adoption support worker who organises support and assistance for children and their families not only when the child is first adopted but at any time throughout their life.
Barnet also works in partnership with the Post Adoption Centre who provide help and support to adopters and their children.
