How do I get an HMO licence?
For an application pack:
- Contact the Private Sector Housing Team, Residential Services - details in contact box
- or download the forms and send them in:
- HMO licence application form
(PDF 332KB)
You will need to supply sketch plans of your HMO and send in the correct fee with your application.
We can give you advice on drawing sketch plans
We can help you with the application for an additional fee.
The licensing process:
- We check that your application is fully completed, signed and includes:
- Plans or sketch plans with dimensions and facilities marked
- The latest gas safety certificate
- The annual test certificate for automatic fire detection equipment and emergency lighting (if there is one)
- The correct fee.
We contact you if the application is not complete. - We arrange an inspection (if necessary) and send you a draft licence with our proposals, within eight weeks of a completed application
- You have 14 days to make representations on our proposals
- We take these into account and send you any amendments (which again you can make representations on)
- We’ll then issue the licence – you have the right to appeal.
