Do I qualify for rehousing?
Answer
Barnet Council decides this by using points systems. For example, points are allocated if your present home is unsuitable for medical reasons or if you share facilities. How long you have to wait for re-housing depends on the number of points you have. If there are fewer council properties in some areas, you will wait longer for vacancies in these neighbourhoods. People with fewer points can improve their chances by choosing areas where there are more vacancies.
Once you join the housing register, you can “bid” for properties using your points. Every week houses or flats for rent are advertised in the local edition of the “The Press” and on the Home Connections website. Properties are let to bidders with the highest number of points.
Even if you have very few points, we may be able to help you. If you are willing to share a bathroom, you may be able to obtain a flat more quickly.
