Current claim
If your circumstances change, you should tell us about the changes as soon as possible.
If you do not tell us about a change of circumstances within one calendar month of the change, you may be losing benefit as the change may increase your housing benefit and council tax benefit.
Also, if you do not tell us about any changes in your circumstances, you may be overpaid and will have to repay any housing benefit and council tax benefit, which you should not have received.
The following list gives examples of changes you must tell us about immediately:
- You change address temporarily or permanently
- You are going away for a while
- Your income changes or your capital/savings increase
- You start work
- There is a change in your non-dependants or their income
- There is a change to the amount of rent you pay
- If you start or stop receiving Income Support or Jobseeker's Allowance
- If you start or stop receiving any other benefit
- If your capital, such as savings and investments, alters
- There is a change to the amount of money you receive from subtenants/boarders.
This list is not exhaustive, these are only examples of changes you need to tell us about.
If you are not sure whether a change will affect your housing benefit and council tax benefit – tell us anyway.
