How we work out your benefit - your income
We work out your benefit based on your income after tax, National Insurance, and half of any pension contributions you may pay. Not all of your income counts in the income calculation. These are known as disregards.

| Single parent - disabled | £25.00 pw. |
| And if you have children or are working for 30 hours per week we will disregard an extra | £14.90 pw |
Child care costs
We will disregard from your wages £175.00 pw for the first child or £300.00 pw for two or more children. Payments must be made to a registered child minder or after school club. We can only take into account childcare cost until the first Monday in September after your child’s 15th birthday. If your child is disabled, we can disregard childcare costs until the first Monday in September after your child is 16.
Other disregards
- Certain benefits such as Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance are not taken into account in the calculation
- We have decided not to include war pensions pensions in the calculation.
- Certain other payment, such as charitable payments, are only partly taken into account.
