Carer disregard (discounts)
A person will be disregarded for the purposes of calculating a discount if they are engaged in providing care or support (or both) to another person and that the care must be provided to a person who is resident at the same dwelling as the carer for at least 35 hours a week on average.
The care must be provided by a person who is not a disqualified relative, (such as spouse of the other, or they live together as husband and wife, or they are the parent of a child under 18 years old) to a person who is entitled to:
- a higher rate attendance allowance
- the highest rate of the care component of a disability living allowance
- an increase in the rate of his/her disablement pension
- an increase in a constant attendance allowance.
If you would like to apply for a reduction, please email us on local.taxation@barnet.gov.uk. Please quote the address to which the discount will apply, the council tax account number if known, and your contact details.
