Business Continuity Conference: 4 September 2006

  • Are you prepared for the unexpected?
  • Do you have an emergency plan to help you deal with any interruptions to normal business?

The council’s emergency planners hosted a free conference on 4 September 2006. The event raised awareness of emergency planning issues among members of the Barnet business community, and also saw the launch of the Barnet Business Continuity Forum.

It was attended by 100-plus representatives of businesses, voluntary groups and community groups in Barnet, and included talks from a range of speakers on national and local business continuity issues.

Speakers

  • Eddy Coventry, National Business Continuity Manager of the Year;
  • Dr Andrew Burnett, Director of the Barnet Primary Care Trust;
  • Tom Nathan, General Manager of Brent Cross Shopping Centre;
  • Councillor Mike Freer, The Leader of the Council (Barnet Council);
  • Councillor Brian Coleman, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Community Engagement;
  • Leo Boland, The Chief Executive of Barnet Council;
  • Dorne Kanareck, Head of the Corporate Anti-Fraud Team (Barnet Council);
  • Emer Coleman, The Head of Communications (Barnet Council).

Workshop sessions discussed ideas for businesses to improve their own business continuity plans, prompted by the question 'what can I do to ensure my business recovers as quickly as possible?'
