Butchers licences
With effect from 24 September 2005 new regulations took effect which extended all existing butcher shop licences valid on that day, until the end of the year, 31 December 2005.
From January 1 2006, all food businesses will be required to comply with the new EU hygiene regulations and there will not be a requirement to have a licence to operate a butchers shop.
The new EU regulations contain very similar requirements to the current butchers shop licence requirements, so this should not be seen as a reduction in the expected standard.
