Temporary street market
To put in an application for a Street Market then we will need the following documentation from you
- a risk assessment for the event,
- a copy of your public liability insurance
- a drawing of the area you are planning to trade, with each stall location clearly marked on it (we will need this as soon as possible so we can confirm adequate space for your intended market)
- a completed application form.
Fees
We charge by the space you use, the current fee is £1.32 per square meter per day.
We also require a £4000 bond which we will hold to cover any damage to the highway or any expense the council may occur such as rubbish clearance or removal of illegal signage etc
Both of the above need to be paid at least two weeks before the start of your planned event. Provided there are no issues the bond will be cleared to be returned to you 7 days after the end of the event.
Parking
If you wish to look into suspension of parking controls, you needs to contact the Parking Department, you can find all the infomation and the forms online.
Alcohol
If any of your stalls wish to sell alcohol then you will need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice. You can download the form online. But this must be returned to us at least TEN working days before the event.
Notice
You need to give us 6 weeks notice of your intended dates for your market, but the earlier you contact us the better.
We also require you to give notice to local residents and businesses of the forthcoming market so that they can raise any issues with either yourselves or our department before the market takes place
We will also e mail information on the upcoming market to the ward Councillors for the area and the local police Safer Neighbourhood Team.
Nuisance
As part of the application we will need to know the measures you are putting in place to limit the nuisance caused by your market in relation to noise and refuse.
We will expect to be notified as soon as possible if you are planning on having a generator (and where you will be placing this) and also how you will be dealing the refuse removal.
