Early education
The Early Years Foundation Stage
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards for learning development and care for children from birth to five.
A child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances and therefore the overarching aim of the EYFS is to help children achieve the five “Every Child Matters Outcomes” (external link) of:
- staying safe
- being healthy
- enjoying and achieving
- making a positive contribution
- achieving economic well being.
The EYFS is mandatory for all schools and early years providers in Ofsted registered settings for children from birth to the end of the academic year in which a child is five.
Further information can be obtained from the Department for Education (external link).
We work across all childcare providers to ensure that the quality and standards of early years provision in Barnet is maintained.
If your child is in attending an early years provision you could be elegible for free early years provision.
