Services for childminders
Support for registered childminders in Barnet
We aim for our childminding workforce to provide the very best level of care that they can do to the children and families they work with. We advise and guide childminders about how to become registered and then encourage and support continual development throughout their career in Barnet.
Each locality has a Childminding Network and Development Officer (CNDO) who can offer help, support and advice to registered childminders in that area. They can support you in every aspect of your service. Contact the team using the details on the left.
Childminding Networks
Barnet Childminding Networks deliver the Children Come First (CCF) Quality Assurance scheme, which was devised and is now monitored by the National Childminding Association (external) (NCMA).
The Networks are a formal group of registered childminders who are assessed, monitored and supported by a Network Co-ordinator. CCF is a nationally recognised scheme and the only way by which childminders can be accredited to receive free early years provision (FEYP) for children aged three and four-years-old.
Network childminders are self employed like all other childminders, but they have access to additional training and advice to help them to reach and set standards higher than the minimum standards laid down by Ofsted.
The Childminding Networks have good links to all of the Children's Centres as these are being developed across the borough.
The childminding team also has a Childminding Mentor Co-ordinator, who trains and supports a group of experienced childminders to act as ‘mentors’ or buddies to newly registered or less experienced childminders.
