Barnet Tales winner: moving to Barnet changed my life

By Ali Pasyar (aged 10)

I recently moved in to the Barnet Borough. I had no friends. I sat on my chair admiring the beautiful trees opposite our house window. The tremendous red, pink and white roses that surround our garden I love the sight of the roses and trees. They wave in the wind I feel like they talk to me.

The next day after I had watered the roses I went back inside I noticed my baby brother (Kian 1.5 years old) tiptoeing trying to look outside the window. I quietly went forward and looked outside the window. I saw four children playing on our little section of grass on the other side of our house. I decided to go outside and introduce myself. I saw them playing an interesting game called cricket I had never played cricket but I gave it a go it was one of the best things I had done in ages! They introduced themselves to me, one was called Adi who was 13 years old, and the other was called Rishida who was 11 years old and Adi’s twin brothers Surav and Suyash who are 5 years old.

The next day I woke up early in the morning I had a life changing decision to make, which school should I go to? There was one school outside of the Barnet borough and one inside the Barnet borough I was told that Barnet has the best schools in London so I decided to go to the school inside the Barnet borough. I went to register myself for that school with my dad. Someone had moved the sign to another direction so we got lost twice finally someone directed us to the school. We met a nice lady who was a member of staff she looked into the computer and she said “fortunately we have one place left but you have to start tomorrow” she also told us where to get the school uniform from and she gave us some information regarding the school policy.

The next day when I woke up I gobbled my breakfast and got ready to go to school. On my first day at school we could either make cushion designs or write team/vice captain speeches therefore I decided to write a speech to be a team captain or vice captain.  The following day we had to read it in front of our house (25% of the whole school).

The day had come we had to read our speech in front of 25% of the whole school and the person with the most votes gets to become team captain and the person with the second most votes gets to become vice captain. Astonishingly surprised, I got the most votes out of my whole house team so I lead 25% of the school at sport days and at house events. This is Captain Ali!!! What will happen to me next...
