Crime Prevention
Fighting to reduce crime and the fear of crime in Barnet
Crime by its nature can have terrible and long-lasting effects on victims and their families, and that is why Barnet Council and its partners are determined to prevent the incidence of crime and reduce the fear of becoming a victim.
The Barnet Safer Communities Partnership (BSCP) is made up of a number of partner organisations, who are working together to keep residents safe.
Crime is relatively low in Barnet but recent months have seen a rise in burglars taking advantage of open windows, unlocked or insecure doors and valuables left on display. Follow the tips set out below to help make sure that you do not become a victim of burglary
- Look like you are in when you are out - use a timer switch on lights fitted with energy saving light bulbs or radios.
- Don't leave valuables, car keys and handbags by your front door particularly if they can be seen through the letter box.
- Fit good quality deadlocks to all exterior doors and ensure you have window locks especially on ground floor windows.
- Keep windows and doors, especially at the rear of your property, closed and secure.
