Mortuary service
Coroners mortuary facility
The functions provided by Finchley Mortuary are to:
- receive the deceased person
- arrange via the Coroner’s Officer a Post Mortem examination if necessary
- arrange positive identity of the deceased person
- release the deceased person to a family appointed funeral director, or the family themselves if carrying out an independent funeral.
The coroner’s role is to investigate any sudden or unexpected death. This is carried out in the form of a post mortem examination. If the examination reveals death by natural causes the coroner is no longer involved.
If the death is not natural, ie, a road accident, suicide etc, the coroner will hold an inquest into the circumstances surrounding the sequence of events leading up to the death and record a verdict.
