Barnet Civic Network

What does the network do?

It is a bi-annual evening event which aims to:

  • enable networking between organisations in Barnet to enhance mutual understanding and encourage joint working opportunities
  • engage organisations that represent the full range of communities in Barnet in thinking through ideas for the future of the borough
  • enable the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) and its members to report progress on implementing Barnet’s Sustainable Community Strategy and to allow community representatives to have an input into this work
  • act as a sounding board which gives feedback on and influences policy development and service delivery of partners.

We organise the network but members of the network help determine its future development.

How can I get involved?

Anyone can attend but it is aimed primarily at those involved in the civic life of the borough, such as voluntary or community organisations, local businesses and public agencies.

Meetings are typically attended by over 100 representatives of organisations.

25 March 2010 - meeting postponed

The meeting provisionally planned for 25 March 2010 will not be taking place due to the purdah period before the elections on 6 May. Details of the next meeting will be posted here in due course.

11 November 2009 - The core strategy - shaping Barnet as a place

The outputs from the workshops will feed into the production of the next stage of the core strategy, which will be subject to a further and final round of public consultation later this year. Alongside the core srategy we will publish a consultation report setting out what we did to publicise the document at the direction of travel stage, including events such as the civic network, what people told us and how we considered their views.

More details on Planning consultations including Core strategy - direction of travel and Core strategy - issues and options.

21 April 2009 - moving from consultation to conversation

What has it achieved so far?

The network has given a wide range of people the opportunity to influence major strategies and development in the borough, such as:

  • the Local Development Framework Core Strategy
  • the Safer Communities Strategy
  • the Sustainable Community Strategy
  • healthier lifestyles and
  • communicating the work of the LSP.

In addition, networking opportunities have resulted in individuals making contacts directly relevant to their work.
