Barnet Youth and Connexions Service
Barnet Youth and Connexions Service supports and encourages young people to take part in activities and events that build confidence and develop skills and accreditation including the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
There are many more activities offered by voluntary and community groups. You can find many details of these in our "Things to Do" directory.
Youth work takes part in local communities (see below for areas) where the service also runs holiday schemes targeted at young people most in need. It also links with some voluntary organisations which provide youth activities.
Specialist services include:
- a youth theatre for developing drama, dance and theatre technical skills
- a music project for skills in digital recording and production, learning instruments and singing, football coaching based at Burnt Oak
- a young people’s drug and alcohol project
Barnet Youth and Connexions Service provides services to all young people in Barnet including:
- those who need extra support with education
- young people who have special educational needs
- those at risk of not being in education, employment or training
- those at risk of offending
This service includes Connexions Personal Advisers who work individually and confidentially with young people helping them with personal issues, other advice and guidance to help find education courses, training or work.

Connexions Personal Advisers work individually and confidentially with young people helping them with personal issues, other advice and guidance to find education courses, training or work.
Hendon Youth Base
Youth Base is open Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm. (Monday, it closes at 4pm). Young people aged 13-19, or up to 25 with learning and or physical difficulties can drop-in for information, advice and guidance on a range of issues.
Youth Base drop-in is staffed by experienced Youth Workers and Connexions Personal Advisors who will be able to give information and help with things such as careers, benefits, housing, drugs and alcohol and sexual health. They will also help young people to find positive activities and things to do in their local area.

331 Young People's Centre
331 is also open Monday to Friday nine to five and offers the same full range of services as Youth Base. In addition 331 also offers a support and counselling service for young people aged between 12 and 21 years of age. More details of 331 can be found at advice for young people.

Youth and Connexions Youth Centres and Projects
Barnet IMPACT drug service for young people
This service offers information, advice and support for young people up to 18 years of age with drug and alcohol issues. It is a friendly service which aims to offer support to all young people who need help with drugs and alcohol.
Young people will see a worker on a one-to-one basis. The worker is able to provide support for the young person to get the help they need. There are also opportunities for parents and carers to receive support and/or information about drug and alcohol issues in their families.
The service also provides education on drugs and alcohol misuse for projects working with young people in Barnet.

Burnt Oak Youth Centre
Barnet Burnt Oak Youth Centre conducts outreach work with young people in the local area. Activities include: Young Women’s project, Study Support, Outreach project, Duke of Edinburgh award, Karate, Gym, Judo, general activities, holiday activities and know your rights.

Canada Villa Youth Centre – Mill Hill
Youth club providing activities and occasional holidays for local young people. Activities include: general activities, arts activities, Business Enterprise Group, holiday provision – Easter, Summer and all half terms.

Finchley Youth Theatre
Interested in drama, dance, theatre, construction, lighting or sound? Finchley Youth Theatre runs courses and programmes for young people aged between 10-25 years in drama, dance and technical theatre skills, including lighting, construction and sound.
Partnership work with the Inclusive Play Opportunities Project (IPOP) has created programmes for young people with disabilities to engage in drama and dance workshops throughout the year. This excellent resource has its own theatre space, rehearsal rooms and offices, but also works in other venues across the borough.

Grahame Park Youth Centre
The Outreach Worker at Grahame Park Youth Centre aims to work with young people on issues and projects which concern or interest them. Staff are available to help and offer guidance to young people. Youth service staff are trained in delivering youth work, giving guidance on drugs and alcohol, sexual health and equal opportunities and are available to help in these and other areas.
They will also help young people to gain access to other services. Activities include: radio station, open sessions, RITHMIK, street defence, street dance.

Rainbow Youth Centre – Dollis Valley
Rainbow Youth Centre is a centre for young people aged 11 to 19. It has an open night, usually Fridays 5-7pm. There are opportunities to work with video, photography and music projects, as well as basketball and football courts on site.
All programs are accredited for Youth Achievement or Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Activities include: study support, photography, general activities, video project, teenage mothers, RAP, Barnet Eagles football.

RITHMIK Music Project
For skills in digital recording and production, learning instruments and singing. RITHMIK is a music project for young people aged 13 to 19. Sessions are offered in DJ, vocal and MC skills, performances and studio recording.
The main studio is reopening at Canada Villa Youth Centre in Summer 2008 with outreach music sessions taking place at other centres/projects in the Borough. Some courses are accredited by AQA (Assessment and Qualifications Alliance).

Watling Football Club
Watling Football Club offers football training and matches for young people. It is staffed by qualified coaches and is a member of the Harrow Youth League. They have teams entered for all ages from 11 to 18. The club has a good reputation for doing well in a number of competitions, has won several trophies and has a player representing London in the All England Schools’ team.
Training takes place in a number of locations in the borough. The club trains five nights a week and at weekends during the season.
