Parents who use drugs or alcohol
When parents take illegal drugs it can risk the health and well-being of their children. Most parents want to do the best they can for their children.
Children of alcoholics are more likely, than other children, to abuse alcohol themselves. Children of alcoholics and drug-users are at risk of developing health, behaviour and emotional problems. Each child is affected differently, some do well in spite of problems, others develop more problems.
Support for children and young people
In some cases children and young people may look after someone in their family who may have a substance misuse problem.
