Consultation: new home and community support service
In August 2010, the London Borough of Barnet’s current homecare contracts will come to end. This is an opportunity for Barnet to develop a new service for people who receive support in their homes. This support can include help with personal care such as washing and dressing, or help with domestic chores.
We want to create a service which will:
- promote people's ability to direct their own care
- increase flexibility for people receiving a homecare service. For example, allowing people to receive care at different times on different days.
- improve the choice of service available to people who use a homecare service
- support alternatives to residential and nursing care, helping people to stay independent in their own homes for as long as possible
We have created a draft home support specification 
(PDF: 235KB) which puts forward all our ideas for the new service, and states what we would require of any potential service providers.
We would welcome views and suggestions to assist us in developing our new service. You don't have to be receiving a homecare service to share your views with us, anyone who is interested can send us their comments on the above document.
Once we have gathered people's views, this service specification will be finalised and we will invite service providers to tender for the new homecare contract.
