Consultation: deaf, deafened and hard of hearing services
Services for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people in Barnet
From the beginning of September until 16 October 2009, the Physical and Sensory Impairment Partnership Board were asking for your views about health and social care services available in the borough. We sent surveys to people's homes, and the survey was also available to complete online.
Three focus groups were also held to give people the opportunity to share their views along with other people in a similar situation as themselves.
The feedback we have received will help the Phyiscal and Sensory Impairment Partnership Board to see how well our services are doing and where improvements need to be made. The results of the survey will be used to help us develop a three year strategy for services for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people in Barnet. Work on this will beginning towards the end of 2009.
See Me! Hear Me! Event
On Thursday 26 November 2009, an event was held to give Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people the opportunity to:
- find out the key findings from the survey
- have their say on what should be done to address any issues that have arisen from the survey
- find out more about the support that local voluntary organisations have to offer
Four different workshops were held on the evening to give people with different communication needs the chance to discuss different topics covered by the original survey. These included council services, Advocacy services, GP and Hospital services, and Audiology and Interpreting services. All participants were asked to think about what they thought would be the best way to deal with any difficulties faced by Deaf and hard of hearing people in each of these areas, and come up with recommendations.
