Colindale Area Action Plan Preferred Options consultation
Preferred Options consultation period: 21st October 2008 to 8th December 2008
Barnet Council and the Mayor of London have identified Colindale as an area for substantial growth and development. The London Plan has set a strategic target of 10,000 new homes and 500 new jobs for the area over the next 15-20 years.
The Council's vision for Colindale is that the area will become a transformed place where people will want to live, work and visit. It will accommodate high quality sustainable developments and become a successful suburb in Barnet and North London providing new homes and business opportunities for a growing area with high quality community services, transport and access to green space and leisure facilities.
Through the redevelopment of Grahame Park Estate and the new development at Beaufort Park (former RAF Hendon), there are already several thousand new homes approved for the Colindale area. Other key sites which are likely to come forward for development include Colindale Hospital, the British Newspaper Library, Middlesex University, the MET Police Peel Centre and sites on the Edgware Road.
To ensure that future new development is of the highest quality and delivers benefits to existing communities, an Area Action Plan (AAP) is being prepared for Colindale. This will provide a development framework that will ensure that the level of growth envisaged for the area is supported by proper community and transport infrastructure improvements.
After completing the Issues and Options stage earlier this year, which included a six week period of public consultation from December 2007 through to February 2008, a Preferred Option has now been drawn up for the area. We are consulting on the Preferred Option over the next six weeks and would welcome your views on the document to help us make sure that existing residents and stakeholders’ interests and opinions are taken into account.
Following this consultation period we will review the document again before submitting it to the Secretary of State in late Spring 2009 for consideration by an Independent Inspector at an Examination in Public.
