Consultation period: 30 June 2008 to 29 September 2008
The Local Development Framework (LDF) is a new plan being prepared by us, the council, to guide future development. It is a folder of planning documents that will replace Barnet's Unitary Development Plan (UDP). We needed your help to ensure that the plan managed the changes in a way that brought most benefit to Barnet and its community.
The Issues and Options consultation was held between 30 June to 29 September. The council consulted on the Core Strategy, a key document in the LDF that will set the framework for all other planning documents. We consulted at an early stage in the preparation of the plan, so that everyone can had the opportunity to shape it before things were finalised.
At the initial consultation stage, we asked for your views on the Issues and Options for our Core Strategy.
The preparation of the Issues and Options paper for consultation was the first statutory stage, in the production of the Core Strategy. The Issues and Options allowed us to identify the main planning issues that the Core Strategy will need to cover with alternative spatial policy options to tackle them.
It was fundamental that the local community and our stakeholders were given opportunities to participate in the development of these spatial policy issues and options from the initial stage. We identified five strategic issues, details of these and the draft options for tackling these issues are available in the:

Interested members of the community could send their comments directly to the consultation database.

Feedback/comments
We informed interested members of the community that by getting involved in the consultation process they had an opportunity to become involved in managing the development of their local area. We welcomed comments and ideas that we received regarding how people would like to see the borough developed.
In order to submit their views on the issues and options consultation, interested members of the community were encouraged to use the contact details opposite. We confirmed that we would be presenting a draft document of the preferred options next year. We highlighted the fact that it was important to have stakeholders input before this in order to make sure that existing residents' ideas and opinions were taken into account.
