LDF Site Allocations Development Plan Document
Development site suggestions
Information gathering exercise: 16 February - 16 March 2010
The information gathering exercise involves engaging:
- developers
- consultants
- landowners
- any other interested parties
We want to involve you in considering how land in Barnet might be developed in the future and would like you to help us to identify land or buildings that you think could be developed or put to a different use. This is an important opportunity to suggest land and/or buildings where change could take place.
We are currently developing a new suite of planning documents that will guide development decisions in the borough called the Local Development Framework (LDF). Work is now beginning on the Site Allocations Development Plan Document (DPD), which will form part of the LDF. The Site Allocations DPD and accompanying Proposals Map will allocate land for development and designate land for particular uses. The Site Allocations DPD will need to be consistent with the overall spatial strategy set out in the emerging Core Strategy.
Sites submitted and their suggested uses will subsequently be assessed and considered for inclusion in the Site Allocations DPD. A consultation draft of the Site Allocations DPD is expected to be published in Summer 2010.
Potential development sites and their potential uses should be put forward for consideration as part of the Site Suggestions period between 16 February and 16 March 2010.
Please read the accompanying guidance notes before submitting suggestions. For each site we would like you to complete a form and provide an attached map accurately identifying the site boundary.
Completed forms and maps should be submitted to the address situated on the left before 16 March 2010.
Purpose of the Site Allocations Development Plan Document
The Site Allocations (DPD), will allocate sites for:
- housing
- employment
- other land uses
- and identify other planning designations such as Conservation Areas.
These sites will eventually update, replace or introduce new development sites from those in existing Barnet's May 2006 adopted Unitary Development Plan Schedule of Proposals (chapter 13, p198)

Once the Site Allocations DPD is formally adopted, it will become an important factor with regards to reaching decisions on forthcoming planning applications This means that planning applications that come forward for sites listed in the adopted Site Allocations DPD will only be considered if they conform to the land usage that has been designated to them. For example, if a site is designated for residential development, then only applications proposing residential development will be considered suitable for that site.
