Mill Hill East AAP - inspector's report

Inspector approves “sound” action plan for Mill Hill East

A Government Inspector has backed plans for new development at Mill Hill East. He says planning guidance produced by Barnet Council is “fundamentally sound,” and will help to deliver some of the 20,000 new homes needed in the borough over the next ten years.

The Inspector, whose findings are binding on the Council, conducted an ‘Examination in Public’ in October into the Area Action Plan (AAP) for Mill Hill East, which the Council and the Mayor of London believe could deliver up to 2,000 new homes and 500 jobs within a high quality suburban setting.

The AAP has been drawn up following the decision by the area’s biggest landholder, the Ministry of Defence, to leave its Inglis Barracks site, providing an opportunity to make fundamental and long-lasting improvements to the local environment.

The AAP has been prepared over the last two and a half years involving extensive public consultation, including exhibitions and stakeholder workshops in which council officers, residents’ groups, local and strategic agencies and council members considered alternative options for the use and development of the site.

The AAP will now be reported to Barnet’s Cabinet before going forward to the full Council for adoption in January.
