Background

We are working collaboratively with six other North London boroughs to produce the North London Waste Plan. The North London Waste Plan will form part of Barnet’s Local Development Framework (LDF), the planning policy framework for the area.

The aim of the document is to identify sites (or areas of land) for the wide range of waste facilities needed to manage the waste produced in North London up to and beyond the year 2021.

Preferred Options is the second stage of consultation in producing the final plan. The first stage; Issues and Options took place between January and March 2008.

The Preferred Options report contains a long list of potential waste management sites which has been put together from a variety of sources. Each site has been given a score for its suitability as a waste management facility. Those sites with the highest scores are the one's considered most suitable for use as a waste facility. A full explanation of how this has been carried out can be found in the North London Waste Plan Preferred Options report. The document also contains draft policies which aim to guide development on the selected sites, ensuring that each one will be functional and fits in well with its surrounding environment.

Additional background information and an overview of the North London Waste Plan can be found on our local waste plan page.

Stakeholder consultation

The aim of the consultation was to:

  • give you the opportunity to understand how the waste plan is taking shape.
  • give you a chance to provide comments on the report itself; and to
  • gain your opinions of the sites and policies selected for future waste management;
