Playbuilder Consultation
What are we consulting on?
Barnet has been awarded funds from the Department of Children, Schools and Families’ (DCSF) to build 22 new and exciting play areas aimed at 8-13 year olds. This age group was chosen due to low provision, but the play areas have been designed to allow children of all abilities to play together without boundaries.
What is the Playbuilder initiative?
The Government commissioned nationwide studies on play facilities and this showed that nationally there was a lack of challenging play facilities for the 8-13 age group and that girls and children with a disability have the least choice. The study also showed that all children would benefit from play areas that offered a chance to explore their environment and test their own limits. Natural play - logs, boulders, mounds and nets, with no restricting fences allows children the freedom to explore.
The designs have been based on the Playbuilder Initiative to provide the facilities that were found to be most lacking within existing play areas.
The Consultation Process
The Consultation process will last until the 8 January 2010. We would especially like to hear from parents and children about which pieces of equipment and areas of the designs they like best.
We’d also like to know:
- if you think there is something missing
- of amazing equipment you have seen elsewhere and want here
- if there is something that you really like to do such a climbing, swinging etc
We can’t promise to include all your ideas but will definitely consider them for this phase and for the next eleven sites due in 2010 – 2011.
How do I contribute my view?
Please email us at parks@barnet.gov.uk. You can also contribute your views to our playbuilder facebook page.
