Welfare rights unit: budget consultation
The consultation period
The deadline is extended to Wednesday 11 March 2009
As part of the budget setting for 2009-2010, the council is proposing to close the separate Welfare Rights Unit currently provided by Adult Social Services. This does not affect the welfare rights services offered to children and their families.
The council believe that this decision will be offset by the continued financial support by the council to other advice agencies
(PDF: 15KB) who provide benefits advice. This will ensure that a facility to get advice and information on welfare rights remains available for people who require it.
An equalities impact assessment
(PDF: 85KB) has been conducted to help identifying the potential impact of this proposal on residents and staff. This assessment helps staff provide and deliver excellent services to residents by making sure that these reflect the needs of the community. By carrying out an Equality Impact Assessment, the council can ensure that the services it provides fulfils the requirements of anti-discrimination and equalities legislation.
