Fair Processing Notices
Under the Data Protection Act 1998 (Section (1)), Personal Data is defined as data that relates to a living individual who can be identified:
- from those data, or
- from those data and other information which is in the possession of, or is likely to come into the possession of, the data controller
and includes any expression of opinion about the individual and any indication of the intentions of the data controller or any other person in respect of the individual. Personal data will therefore cover basic details such as name, address, telephone number and date of birth.
How we use your information
For some of our services, we need to collect personal data so we can get in touch, or provide the service. For example, we can't write to you if we don't know your address. We always try to make sure the information we collect is correct and isn't an invasion of your privacy. Please refer to our privacy statement.
Confidentiality / security
All our employees and data processors, who have access to, and are associated with the processing of personal data, are obliged to respect the confidentiality of your personal data at all times. We ensure that your personal data will not be disclosed to government institutions and authorities except if required by law or other regulations.
Disclosure
We will only use personal information you send us for the purposes for which you provide it. Once your information has been collected by the council, it may be used by other council departments, where necessary, to provide a complete service to you. We will only hold your information for as long as necessary for these purposes and will not pass it on to any other parties, except where required to carry out our duties and functions as a local authority or if there is a risk of serious harm or threat to life.
All employees and subsidaries who may have access to your personal data are obliged to respect the confidentiality of your personal data. All your communications to us are protected againnst unauthorised access by third parties.
This authority is under a duty to protect the public funds it administers, and to this end may use the information you have provided for the prevention and detection of fraud. It may also share this information with law enforcement agencies and other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds for these purposes.
Requesting information
You can ask us for information we may hold about you by writing to the Information Governance Officer or via email: foi@barnet.gov.uk. We will inform you within 40 days if we hold any personal information about you and you will be informed of any charges if they apply.
Privacy compliance
We will treat any personal information by which you can be identified (i.e. name, address, email, etc.) in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act of 1998.
