Housing in Barnet
A decent home provides the bedrock for a successful community, and the Council has an important part to play in ensuring that housing is provided that meets the needs and aspirations of Barnet residents. Our analysis of a range of Housing data has shown that:
- Barnet’s population is expected to grow rapidly over the next ten years
- Demand for all types of Housing in Barnet is high
- Over two-thirds of Barnet households own their own home
- About 15% of all Barnet households rent privately
- A high proportion of new properties are flats or apartments
- House price inflation has seen house prices increase dramatically since 2001
- Average House prices remain higher than the outer London average
- Although homelessness has reduced, there are still large numbers of people in temporary accommodation
- Home ownership is beyond the reach of many residents
