Statistics about Barnet: external websites
There are many websites that provide access to government data about local authority areas and sometimes sub-areas within a local authority (e.g. wards and super output areas). Some of this data is collected by local public agencies (e.g. the council, the police, the Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Jobcentre Plus etc) while other data is collected through government surveys.
Websites that cover a broad range of data
- Data for Neighbourhood Renewal is an excellent starting point, as it will signpost you to the correct site.
- The Places database is run by the Department for Communities and Local Government and brings a wide range of data together within an environment enabling users to compare geographical areas (districts, wards, super output areas and town centres) with each other and across time, to download spreadsheets of the data and to produce maps.
- Neighbourhood Statistics is run by the Office for National Statistics. You usually start by entering the area you want data about (could be a local authority, a ward or a super output area). You then get access to all the official statistics available at that level of geography, including 2001 Census data, recent population data, crime, education and employment data. You can also view or download data by topic, or create a custom table, chart or map.
- Floor Targets Interactive is run by the Department for Communities and Local Government, and allows you to produce tables, graphs and maps of performance against targets for health, crime, housing, education, employment and the new 198 National Indicators for every local authority area in England.
- 2001 Census data can be obtained directly from National Statistics, and also from SASPAC, which provides an interactive atlas of 2001 Census data that can be used to view borough and ward tables, charts and maps. You will need to download a free piece of software, the Adobe SVG viewer, to use the interactive mapping facility. Scroll down and select your computer's operating system from the table headed Viewers. It requires 13 Mb of hard disk space to run and the provider recommends 32 Mb of RAM. You can find out more about this software from its Release notes.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families provides local education statistics at Education and Skills in your area.

The London Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) provides detailed monthly and annual figures on reported crimes at borough, ward and neighbourhood (super output area) level:
