LDF Core Strategy
The Core Strategy will replace parts of the Unitary Development Plan (UDP). It will set out the spatial vision, objectives, policies and a monitoring and implementation framework for Barnet and is the document at the heart of the Local Development Framework.
The preparation of the document has four stages:
- Issues and Options
- Direction of Travel (which was formerly known as Preferred Options)
- Publication Stage
- Submission to the Secretary of State and adoption
In preparing the Core Strategy, we held a series of LDF community workshops on the 30 October and 21 November 2007. The events were attended by residents, community groups, local stakeholders and planning professionals.
We have already produced our Issues and Options as well as our Direction of Travel reports. These draft documents were previously available for public consultation in accordance with the Local Development Scheme (LDS).The previous consultations which include both reports can be viewed below.

Examination in Public
Next Stages
- Summer 2011: following engagement on this stage, we will submit it to the Secretary of State
- Autumn 2011: the Core Strategy will be subject to an examination in public.
- Summer 2012: adoption: the LDF Core Strategy as a document for making planning decisions, is expected to be adopted in Summer 2012.
