What is the Mill Hill East AAP?
The Mill Hill East AAP is a statutory planning document which forms part of the Barnet Local Development Framework (LDF). Mill Hill East occupies a central location within Barnet. The AAP area is located within the existing neighbourhood of Mill Hill East and is focused around Inglis Barracks, a former operational base for the MoD. The AAP area covers a total area of approximately 48 hectares.
The purpose of the AAP is to ensure that development takes place in a balanced and coordinated manner by setting out a comprehensive framework to guide the delivery of housing, employment, leisure and associated community facilities, infrastructure, transport initiatives and environmental protection and enhancement.
The proposals include plans for 2,000 new homes and 500 jobs, built to high environmental standards, a new community hub to provide retail, commercial and community facilities and public transport and highways improvements. The Councils overall aim is to create a truly sustainable and well designed new community.
Latest News on the Mill Hill East AAP
The Council submitted the Mill Hill East AAP to the Secretary of State on the 12th May 2008, following extensive consultation with the public and key stakeholders. The submission document was subject to further public consultation in May and June 2008. An Examination in Public (EiP) to test the ‘soundness’ of the document was held in October 2008, conducted by an independent Inspector.
Following the EiP, the Inspector issued his report finding the AAP to be sound. The amended AAP was reported to the Councils Cabinet on the 20th January 2009 and formally adopted by the Council on the 27th January 2009.
