Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)
Barnet's Statement of Community Involvement was formally adopted on 28 June 2007.
It is a statutory requirement for local authorities to produce a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) as part of the Local Development Framework.
- The SCI sets out our policy for involving the community in the preparation and revision of Local Development Documents and in considering planning applications.
- It provides information on when, how and who in the community will be involved and the time and resources required.
- It also contains criteria for consulting on large schemes and major planning applications.
Progress so far
In accordance with the Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) Regulations 2004:
- Pre-submission consultation
(PDF 359KB) (Regulations 25, 26) on the draft SCI took place during February/March 2006. This generated 127 representations from 27 separate individuals or organisations, with 107 objections and 20 supporting comments. A Response to Draft SCI Representations
(PDF 1.2MB) was produced. - Submission consultation
(PDF 415KB) (Regulation 28) took place in July/August 2006. The Representations Statement
(PDF 491KB) (Regulation 31) addressed the representations made (a summary of the main issues raised is contained in Appendix H
(PDF 352KB)) and was submitted to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government in September 2006. - The Submission document had an Examination in Public by the Planning Inspectorate in November 2006. The Inspector completed his examination into the soundness of the SCI and sent his binding report to the Council in January 2007. The document was found to be sound subject to a few amendments which are listed in the Inspector's Report
(PDF 61KB), the document showing the Tests of Soundness
(PDF 18KB) and the Inspector's correspondence and list of amendments that had to be made to the SCI
(PDF 257KB). - The final version of Barnet's Statement of Community Involvement
(PDF 1.4MB) was formally adopted on the 28 June 2007. It is also available for viewing in a hard copy at any of Barnet's libraries. The full Adoption Statement
(PDF 74KB) can be viewed here.
