What's happening in the borough's libraries?
Barnet’s Libraries are going through a major programme of improvements which will see six of them become Leading Libraries benefiting from additional services and building improvements. Further information on Leading Libraries.
South Friern and Grahame Park libraries will also see large-scale improvements but, along with the other eight, will remain as local libraries.
All libraries will benefit from a new computer system that will help make the best use of all our stock resources, and with activities for children and young people more popular than ever we are setting up youth panels, linked with Barnet Youth Board, to coordinate activities run by and for young people. About our libraries
In total there are 16 libraries across Barnet, plus a mobile library and home library service, all providing the local community with lending and reference books, books for children, large print books, books on tape and books in foreign languages.
In addition all our libraries provide CD and DVD rental, as well as computer facilities for public use whether it is to access the Internet, send emails, work on documents, or learn new IT skills. We also have an extensive range of subscription resources available online including newspapers and more than 300 online reference books, many of which are accessible from home through our 24/7 Reference Library.
We hold a variety of events for all age groups that range from Baby Rhymetime for babies to explore sounds and movement to the more traditional reading groups where members discuss the latest novels. Our library staff are always happy to help so visit one of our libraries soon – you’ll be surprised at what they have to offer.
