Educational and recreational visits
School visits and residential trips give children and young people a valuable opportunity to encounter new experiences or supplement those of the classroom. They:
- provide the practical features of classroom theory on many curriculum subjects
- enable children and young people to develop initiative, resourcefulness and independence.
However, it is essential that the highest regard is always given to the health and safety of all participants when taking part in an educational visit. A comprehensive risk assessment is always undertaken when schools are planning visits and residential trips.
Comprehensive guidance has been developed to provide helpful and practical advice to governors, headteachers and teachers when organising school visits. If you have any questions or want to discuss a proposed visit or trip, contact the school’s Educational Visits Co-ordinator or Headteacher.
