Building schools for the future
You may have heard Michael Gove announce in Parliament that the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme has been stopped for all schemes not at financial close or preferred bidder status.
We understand that further capital investment in schools is now subject to a wide ranging Government review. The announcement means that the BSF funding we were working towards for six Barnet schools will not be available. Much of the work that has been done towards the schemes will still be useful.
Councillor Harper, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Families said “The ending of the BSF programme does not mean the work we have already done has been in vain. We will build on the tremendous amount of good work we have already done in sharing best practice and developing new ways of teaching, as well as building relationships with other institutions. We will use this opportunity to look again at how we improve the condition of secondary schools in Barnet and school place planning, building on the success of our £100 million, 5 year investment programme which has already delivered four new primary schools and one secondary school on time and on budget. This will leave us well placed to respond to the outcomes of the Spending Review this autumn.”
