First Class Schools
First Class is the name of the programme which is building new, high quality schools for Barnet. These include the new primary schools which were under the first wave of PSCIP – the Primary Schools Capital Investment Programme – to which have been added three other primary schools, a children’s centre, and the new secondary school at East Barnet.
The full list of schools which have been rebuilt or are under construction is as follows:
Whitings Hill
Barnet: the first of the former PSCIP schools has been rebuilt together with a nursery and swimming pool, and opened in September 2009
Parkfield
Hendon: the old school building has been demolished and replaced with a new two form entry school and it opened in September 2009
The Hyde
Hendon: the old school has been rebuilt as two form entry, with a nursery and Children's Centre, and it opened in September 2009
Edgware
Alterations and extensions have been completed and opened at Edgware Junior School in September 2009
Underhill
Barnet: new construction has created a children’s centre, nursery and reception classes. And the centre was completed in Spring 2009
Broadfields
Edgware: a new primary school is under construction and will open after Easter 2010
Northway/Fairway
Mill Hill: work has started on a new special school and a primary school with children’s centre and the buildign will be completed by the end of 2010
Colindale
Design work is underway on a three form primary school and Acorn Assessment Centre, which are due to be completed in 2011
East Barnet School
Contractors plan to complete the new building for the combined secondary school, which will have 1,350 students, in Spring 2010.
