Whitings Hill Primary School
Whitings Hill Primary school is one of the first First Class schools to be built, with construction of a new two from entry primary school with a nursery completed in September 2009. The works will provide enhanced facilities for both the school and the community at large and will include a swimming pool and a community meeting space. Pupils from Whitings Hill and Barnet Hill have moved into the new building and the Opening ceremony was held on 30 September.
The new school is a very environmentally sustainable building, with controlled natural ventilation and a ground source heat pump to help reduce energy consumption. It also has a wind turbine and photo voltaic cells to generate energy and a green sedum roof to reduce water run off and increase biodiversity.
The contractor, Kier London (external link), are currently demolishing the old building and completing external works.
