Visual impairment

Visually impaired children have the right to reach their full potential in life – we are here to help.

We provide:

  • support for children and young people with a visual impairment from 0 to 19 years
  • support and advice to parents and carers through groups and newsletters
  • home visits to pre-school children
  • help with school placements including nursery and pre-school
  • direct support to children in the classroom in mainstream and special schools
  • advice and training to teachers and other professionals
  • support in moving to Sixth form, Further and Higher Education
  • assessments of visual and curriculum access needs
  • training in activities of daily living: such as washing, dressing, feeding
  • training in mobility: such as road safety, getting around safely and independently
  • specialist resources and technology
  • advice on building adaptations
  • written reports
  • information pack.

Visual impairment must not be a barrier to personal fulfilment and educational success. Every child is an individual and we will work closely with you to ensure needs are identified and met.
