Dollis Valley Green Walk

Dollis Valley Green WalkDollis Valley Green Walk won one of the ten grants of up to £400,000 to make it cleaner, safer, greener.

The Mayor of London's scheme, Help a London park (external link) was established to invest £6million in improving the quality and safety of London's parks.

Project updates

February 2010

We are currently liaising with the Mayor of London's office and organisations such as the Environment agency (due to the proximity of the walk to the Dollis Brook), London Wildlife Trust and Walk London to prioritise key works required along the walk.

A funding agreement should be in place by the end of March, which will then lead into a further consultation phase on the detailed aspects with borough residents & local Friends groups.

The implementation phase of the project is due to begin in 2010, through 2011 and be complete by Spring 2012.

The funding will be used to makeover the area by improving:

  • footpaths
  • lighting and entrances creating safer routes for walking
  • accessibility, increasing use of the walk and open spaces as a safe route for walking to the neighbouring shops, work, school and public transport links
  • play facilities by installing new equipment for toddlers and juniors in Windsor Open Space, natural play facilities near Brent Park and new play equipment in Riverside Walk
  • current, and the introduction of new wildlife habitats including a new wetland woodland habitat and reed bed, restoration of hedgerows and the enhancement of the current hay meadows
  • landscaping including entrances into the parks which will be made more attractive and welcoming
  • information boards, finger posts and so on to encourage visitors to explore the network identifying points of interest and places to visit.

About Dollis Valley Green Walk

The Dollis Valley Green Walk incorporating Brent Park, Hendon NW4, Windsor Open Space East Finchley, N3, Riverside Walk / Gardens, North Finchley, N12 and Brook Farm/Wyatts Farm, Whetstone, N20 provides access routes to schools, shops and public transport.

The walk provides an important green corridor for wildlife and recreational use through the heart of Barnet and serves residents from a number of wards within the borough. Various sections are regularly used by instructor-led health walkers, seasonal football, dog walkers and runners. The play areas in Riverside walk and Windsor Open Space are also well used by local residents.

Thank you to everyone who voted for our Barnet park. Please feel free to give us your ideas on improvements for the walk:
