Description
The park contains a pleasant mix of high quality horticultural features laid out in a series of formal and informal gardens, plus sports facilities for cricket and football. The Italian-style Rose Garden, originally built in 1952, has recently been refurbished. Entrances can also be found on the A41 Edgware Way.
History
The present parkland area was once part of the Manor of Earlsbury, the earliest reference to which is in 1216. The park and surrounding area was part of the huge land holdings of All Souls College, Oxford and is shown on the 1599 All Souls plan of ‘Edgewere Woods’. The present park was purchased in two parts the first in 1929 and the second in 1932.
Management
It is our vision to maintain the character and traditions of this urban fringe park, while providing modern facilities which provide a focus and source of pride for the whole community. The park has a five year management plan which is reviewed annually.
We will continue engagement with the local community to galvanise public support for the park and ensure it serves the needs of the community now and in the future.
