Civic Amenity and Recycling Centre With Barnet residents recycling more and more, the site has become busier than ever.

Just a reminder that, when visiting the site at weekends, it's best to get there well before 3.30pm, to avoid long queues. It also saves time and maximises recycling if you can sort your materials into categories before arriving at the site.

The site closes promptly at 4pm and gates will close to new visitors at 3.50pm and earlier in very busy times.

Please Note: From 1 June 2007 drivers of vehicles with trailers, drivers of vans or pick-up trucks, have to phone the site to make an appointment. Appointments must be made 24 hours in advance and proof of address must be taken when visiting the site.

Is trade waste accepted?

We do not accept trade waste. If we suspect that you are bringing trade waste to our site we will investigate you and you may be liable for prosecution.

What if I am coming by van, pick-up truck or in a vehicle with a trailer?

You must make an appointment to visit the Civic Amenity and Recycling Centre if you intend to visit the site. Please call 020 8362 0752 at least 24 hours beforehand to make an appointment. You will need to bring one form of identification with you on the day, as proof that you live in the borough.

How do I get there?

The site is based at Summers Lane, North Finchley, N12 0RF map.
Buses: 382 (stops on Summers Lane). Other buses: 134 or 221 (Woodhouse Road, North Finchley).

When does it open?

Monday to Saturday: 8am to 4pm
Sundays and Bank Holidays: 9am to 4pm
The centre is closed: Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

What are the closing times and procedures?

During the busy summer months the centre experiences long queues, especially during the weekend when the site is extremely busy. To avoid queues and disappointment please visit the site well before 3:30pm.

Gates will close promptly to new visitors at 3:50pm (and earlier in very busy times) to ensure compliance with the terms of the site licence that state that the site must close at 4pm and no later.

What can you recycle at the centre?

At the centre you can recycle over 40 different materials.

New materials to the site include hard plastics, cooking oil, chipboard and MDF.

How do I use the centre?

If you can, separate your household rubbish before visiting the recycling centre. Ask any of our friendly staff to show you which containers to use. Remember, any materials you put into the ‘General Waste’ container will not be recycled!

We currently recycle about 50% of the materials collected. Only those materials that are put in the general waste container are landfilled or incinerated.

Can I take items from the site?

All items deposited at the recycling centre are the property of Barnet Council and must not be removed.

Does the site accept asbestos?

We don’t accept cement-bonded asbestos. If you have asbestos for removal call our household hazardous waste collection service on 020 7332 3433 to arrange for a collection.

What is the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive?

The WEEE directive is a piece of European environmental legislation which aims to increase the amount of WEEE being recycled and reused.
