Business recycling
As recycling becomes a bigger part of our day to day lives at home, more people are looking to recycle and reduce waste in the workplace too. Although we do provide services for householders to recycle their waste, we do not currently offer any recycling services for waste from businesses.
There are many companies which can offer recycling collections to businesses. For more information about setting up recycling in your business visit Waste Online’s webpages on office recycling in London. Alternatively you can contact London Recycle at Work who can give lots of practical information about setting up recycling schemes, including details of companies which collect in your area.
Contact them on:
- Tel: 020 7061 6337 or
- Email: recycleatwork@londonremade.com.
In general you will have to pay for these services, however these costs will be balanced against the savings you can make from throwing away less rubbish.
We don’t currently collect recycling from businesses because by law the waste from businesses and householders are classed differently. We have been set challenging recycling targets for household waste, and have to prove that every tonne collected has come from household sources. Thus we must make sure that household waste is collected and measured separately from business waste.
It is possible that in the future the council may offer a business recycling service. If a business recycling service is offered it is likely to be available only to businesses who have their rubbish collected by our commercial waste service. If you are interested in a future business recycling service send an email with your full contact details to the Waste and Sustainability Team using the contact details opposite.
Waste prevention at work
Any organisation can reduce their waste. As well as saving you money this will reduce the amount of rubbish that your organisation sends to landfill and/or incineration, therefore reducing your impact on the environment. And it’s often very simple.
Why not:
- set double-sided printing as default on all printers
- refill printer cartridges
- if you aren’t going to use an item very often why not hire it rather than buy one
- get a wormery in the office for all those kitchen scraps
- be packaging aware when purchasing goods – buy items which come in less packaging.
